As much as I loved living in Edinburgh my favourite part of Scotland was the Highlands. That is until I went to the Isle of Skye for a couple days.
Old Man Storr
The legend says an older couple loved to hike up this hill and admire the scenery. One day the wife said she couldn’t make it up the rest of the way, she had now grown to old. A fairy happened to be near by and was watching the couple. The fairy went up to the man and offered a chance to have his wife with him everywhere he went.
The man thought it sounded like a great offer and accepted it. The fairy then turned each one of them into a pillar of rock. They’re now sitting on top of the hill admiring the scenery together, forever. Romantic or a trick?
If I’ve learned anything from this story, or from the movie Labyrinth it’s never, ever trust a fairy.
Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle isn’t actually on the Isle of Skye, but it’s just before you get on the Isle. The castle dates back to the 13th century. Now quite possibly the best looking castle in Scotland.
